Furniture assembly service in London
Most moves involve furniture that needs to come apart to move safely.
We handle it as part of your removal, no second booking, no separate team, no extra coordination.
Furniture assembly and dismantling, built into your move
When you book a home or office removal with Best London Removals, furniture dismantling and reassembly is part of the service. Beds, wardrobes, large shelving units, and other items that need to be taken apart to move safely are handled by the same team carrying out the rest of your move — no additional visit, no separate contractor, no extra coordination on your part.
During the move, one or two team members assemble at the destination while the rest of the crew continues unloading. The work runs in parallel, so reassembly does not extend the overall job time. At the origin address, dismantling is done before loading begins, with all fixings and components kept together and clearly identified for reassembly.
If you need furniture assembled as a standalone service, outside of a removal booking, we offer that too. Details and pricing are below.
What we dismantle and reassemble as part of your move
Most large furniture pieces are straightforward for an experienced team. The items below are the most commonly handled across our home and office moves.

Beds (all sizes)
Frame and headboard cannot safely be carried fully assembled through doorways or down stairs
Wardrobes
Full-height and double wardrobes are too large and heavy to move intact; internal fittings and rails removed separately
Large bookcases and shelving
Tall freestanding units are unstable in transit and often too wide for doorways when assembled
Modular shelving systems
Units like KALLAX and similar require disassembly to separate sections for safe transport
Desk units with return panels
L-shaped and large office desks cannot exit most rooms without partial disassembly
Dining tables with removable legs
Legs removed to be able to pass trough the door frames and reduce footprint in the van
Bunk beds and cabin beds
Always dismantled — cannot safely be moved in one piece
Sofas with detachable bases or arms
Many modern sofas have removable components; we assess and dismantle where needed
Step-by-step
How it works within a removal booking
Dismantling and reassembly are factored into the planning and staffing of your removal — not added as an afterthought.
1
When you request a quote
Tell us which items need dismantling or reassembling. For a full home removal, we identify this during the video survey or home visit. For a man and van booking, let us know in advance so we bring the right tools.
2
On the day, at the origin address
Dismantling is done before loading begins. Fixings, bolts, and small components are bagged and taped to the relevant piece so nothing gets lost in transit. Protective wrapping goes on immediately after dismantling.
3
On the day, at the destination
While part of the team unloads, one or two team members begin reassembly in the rooms you specify. Items are reassembled, checked for stability, and positioned as directed.
4
Sign off
We do not leave until assembled items are stable, correctly positioned, and confirmed complete by you.
Standalone furniture assembly pricing - hourly rates
If you need furniture assembled outside of a house or office moving job, for example, a new delivery of flat-pack items, we offer a standalone service.
Standalone assembly is carried out by a 2-man team as standard. Most assembly jobs benefit from two people: items are heavier than they appear, a second pair of hands makes the work faster and safer, and it reduces the risk of fixings being rushed.
For a rough guide on how long a specific item takes to assemble, check the retailer’s product page; most list an estimated assembly time under the product details or assembly section.
Team Size |
Fixed Price (Incl. VAT) |
Additional Hourly Rate (Incl. VAT) |
|---|---|---|
2 Men Team | £396.00 for up to 4 hours | £96.00 per hour |
The 4-hour minimum covers most standard assembly jobs comfortably — a full bedroom set, a home office setup, or multiple individual items. For larger volumes, contact us, and we will advise on the time required before confirming the booking.
Chargeable time begins upon arrival at the pickup address and ends upon completion of the job.

Is furniture dismantling included in a removal quote?
For full home and office removals, dismantling and reassembly requirements are assessed during the quote process and factored into the team size and time allocation.
Do I need to ask for this in advance?
Yes, let us know which items need dismantling when you request your quote or during the video survey. This allows us to arrive with the right tools and allocate the correct number of team members. Last-minute requests on the day can usually be accommodated, but it helps to plan ahead.
What if I have a fitted wardrobe or built-in shelving?
Fitted and built-in furniture is a different case from free-standing flat pack. They ussually stays, and there is no need to be taken. We can advise on what is practical within a removal context when you describe the specific items during your quote.
Will all my fixings be kept together?
Yes. All bolts, cams, dowels, and small fixings are bagged and secured to the relevant piece of furniture before it is moved. Nothing travels loose.
Does reassembly add time to the removal job?
For full home and office removals, one or two team members handle assembly at the destination while the rest of the crew continues unloading; the work runs in parallel. For most moves, reassembly does not significantly extend the total job time.
What about standalone assembly — is this a separate booking?
Yes. If you need furniture assembled outside a removal job, we offer a standalone service at £396, VAT included, for up to 4 hours (2-man team). This is a separate booking from any removal service.
How do I know if my furniture will need to be dismantled?
As a general rule, if a piece of furniture would not fit through a doorway or down a staircase in its assembled state, it needs dismantling.
This applies to most full-height wardrobes, single, double, king and super-king beds, bunk beds, and large modular units.
We assess this during the quote process and advise accordingly.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes. Goods in Transit and public liability insurance are included on every booking. Your items are covered during handling and transport, subject to policy terms.
